Chloe awoke slowly like she always did. Her head lay against something hard, and a masculine scent filled her head. Garrick’s masculine scent.

“I was just wondering if I should wake you.”

She didn’t move from her position, but nosed into him. Then she said, “How long have you been awake?”

“About fifteen minutes. It’s just past dawn. I was thinking about this debacle.”

That made her move. She eased back. “You think last night was a debacle? We were two people who shared our history. Talked nicely. What’s wrong with that?”

He brushed his hand down her hair. “This is so thick and luscious. Too bad you have to wear it back.”

“It gets heavy. Tell me why you used that awful word about last night.”

“Because we’re playing with fire.” He arched a brow. “At least I am.”

She didn’t answer right away. Then she whispered, “I am too, Garrick.”

His hand went to her mouth, though there was no cocoa on it this time. He rubbed her lips with his thumb. Chloe experienced something she hadn’t felt in a long time. Aroused. By his simple touch.

“Anything between us would be a mistake.”

“Would it?”

“Of course.”

“Garrick?”

“Hmm?”

“I don’t care if it’s a mistake.”

She found herself flat on her back on the couch. He moved on top of her, bracing his arms so she didn’t take his full weight. Still, the position melded their groins, and his erection pulsed against her. She gripped his neck and pulled him down further.

His lips were warm and insistent. He opened her mouth and explored it. She took advantage by exploring him, too.

His hands went to the hem of the fleece she’d donned. She lifted up so he could pull it over her head. He buried his face in her breasts.

She tugged on his sweater, then black T-shirt. And sighed when she saw his sculpted chest, and the dark hair sprinkled in just the right places.

From there, they got lost in each other.
